This past weekend we chose to relax and enjoy the sun within the surrounding area of our home. Although we hung out with a group of friends both Friday and Saturday night we spent the days relaxing in the sun, going to the gym and also spent time updating resumes and applying to jobs for when we return to Canada.
This work week, I have already scheduled meetings with department managers to review a majority of the work and documents I have completed thus far so changes in procedures, duties and policies can begin to be implemented in the weeks to follow. I was approached by a fellow co-worker to review a regulatory document and changes they have crafted along with a notification email which is to be sent to the distributor to notify them of the changes as I have a partial HR background. I was able to effectively review the document and letter, offering areas which should be altered or added to ensure the document is professional and in accordance to the required standards. I have begun to review existing Authorised Economic Operators (AEO) procedures and documents as my next task will be to update them and implement any changes throughout the company.
While I continue to adjust to the Jamaican work environment, there are several things I have noticed which are significantly different. While the Euro 2016 Championship is currently ongoing, every time a game takes place during working hours, a television is sure to be on with a crowd of employees and directors surrounding it at all times. Another noticeable difference is the way people interact within the office. It is not uncommon for most people to speak with "slang" using terms like "wa gwan" and "ya mon," although they are communicating a professional message.
